KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal has officially called off the Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign. President Bidya Devi Bhandari had inaugurated the Campaign on January 1 this year but given the outbreak of COVID-19, the government decided to postpone the campaign. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Bhattarai, informed that the tourism promotion program will be done by announcing the Visit Nepal decade 2020-2030.

KATHMANDU: Nepal has officially postponed Visit Nepal 2020, an ambitious campaign to attract two million tourists.Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, Secretary at Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said that a recent meeting of the Council of Ministers decided to postpone the campaign.The decision comes in a wake of COVID-19 pandemic the world is currently fighting against.Similarly, the meeting has also decided to dissolve Visit Nepal 2020’s Secretariat from April 15.
Why the year 2020?
Nepal government has brought the concept of ‘Visit Nepal decade’ after it postponed the concept of Visit Nepal Year 2020 due to outbreak of coronavirus. The eco friendly and sustainable development is going on in collaboration with private and government sector. After the successful Visit Nepal Year 1998 and Nepal Tourism Year 2011, the Tourism Board of Nepal has finally introduced the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign. After the success of Visit Nepal Year 1998 and Nepal Tourism Year 2011, the Tourism Board of Nepal introduced Visit Nepal Campaign 2020. The campaign was initially planned to be held in 2018 but was postponed due to various reasons. Though Nepal faced a lot of ups and downs, it always rose up fighting with the consequences like a shining armor. Nepal has the finest trekking destinations including the world’s highest peak-Mount Everest. Nepal government is working on making the Visit Nepal 2020 a grand success. From Natural attractions to the cultural heritages, everything in Nepal worth a visit. After the massive success of these events, Nepal planned to celebrate Visit Nepal Year 2018, but some circumstances like the devastating earthquake in 2015 and other instabilities affected the campaign to held in 2018 and it is postponed to 2020.
