This study study replicates and extends several previous investigations that compared different methods of instruction for L2 orthographic learning including my own paper published in Reading and Writing in 2015 (Brennan and Booth, 2015). We were also interested in whether this organization was related to reading skill.

Moreover, reading skill is associated with behavioral and brain indices of phonological processing, particularly at the level of phonemes. I am interested in how these processes are affected by experience and skill, including language and reading experience, reading instruction method, and phonological awareness skill. Brain-behavior analyses revealed adults with better reading skill activated the mid-STG more than those with poorer reading skill for small compared to large grain sizes.
