Have commented on other Borgen dvds- excellent, addictive, great series. It paints a picture of dark deeds in an otherwise sane and civilised nation. This show is quite different from top political tv shows like House of cards and VEEP. This is the sort of media art that gives me hope for future generations. I can't wait to watch series 2 and 3. Great viewing, especially given the UK's recent experience with coalition government, making as it does many of the scenes rather pointed or poignant as a result. No knowledge of the Danish political system required it is a human drama that will grip you and hold you to the very end. And the resolutions are based in the notion of individual dignity and mutual respect.
I simply cannot recommend this highly enough. Danish coalition politics may be a hard sell to most people, indeed I would have had it down as a cure for insomnia but this is a fantastic series that will hook you from the start. I had some problems with one of the discs: it would freeze, start, freeze again... Not sure what is the culprit so out of doubt I gave a 4 star rating rather than my usual 5 star rating to the always great quality products I get from Amazon.ca Each programme deals with a particular political problem, but there is continuity of characterisation and personal stories throughout the series.
Perhaps it is an excellent series but be aware of the language issues.
