Is there anything I can do to argue my case with paypal? I want to send £8 to my friend in the UK via Friends and Family using my Paypal-balance which is already in GBP.
100% Upvoted. The fees page details that for merchants, but not for friends and family. Recently that changed and for friends and family PayPal has made my "primary funding source unavailable" so PayPal uses my backup debit card (to the same account as the primary funding source) and charges a fee for sending. I also sent a question to customer service which sent an automated reply without an answer.

The fees you pay when using a personal account are different from what you are charged for transactions on a business account.
Friends/family payments are only free from your paypal balance OR bank account.If you send using a debit or credit card then there is the card issuers fee to pay.
