Special Olympics Florida conducts eleven State Championships every year. Summer Games are the largest event on the calendar with athletes competing in athletics (track & field), bocce, cheerleading, cycling, soccer, and volleyball. After careful consideration, Special Olympics Florida has cancelled all Special Olympics Florida practices and competitions at the local and state levels through the month of May 2020. Sports Enthusiast positions will be available for Friday and Saturday for Athletics (track & field), Bocce, Cheerleading, Cycling, Soccer, Volleyball, Meals, Opening/Closing Ceremony, and Healthy Athletes.There are a finite number of volunteer positions and they will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. June 5-7, 2020 Columbia The 2020 State Summer Games have officially been altered. In order to compete in a State Championship event, athletes and teams must have completed eight weeks of training and compete at county and area level competitions.
The event is a culminating event for Special Olympics Florida athletes who have advanced through County and Area Games after a minimum of 10 weeks of training in their selected sport including athletics (track and field), bocce, cheerleading, cycling, soccer and volleyball. This event is held annually in May at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and kicks off with an exciting Olympic-style opening ceremony featuring the final leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Chairs can be picked up at the main entrance (top of ramp) and you must leave a photo ID, which will be returned upon return of the chair.Families and spectators may purchase food and/or beverage at an array of kiosks throughout the Sports Complex, including a quick service restaurant near the main entrance. will will will certainly certainly certainly certainly miss. There is no fee for parking at the Sports Complex.Families are encouraged to use the family hotel where a discounted rate has been reserved at the following hotel.
